The Albany State Capitol pictured in the panorama was erected in 1806-1808 on the crest of the hill and bordering the new public square as described in an article from the New York State Museum.
The current State Capitol building was constructed between 1867 and 1897 when Governor Black declared it was done. It has no dome but has an elaborate staircase with statues of famous New Yorkers. In 1911 the west side was damaged by fire and reconstructed.
