Croton River

Arthur Adams in The Hudson River Guidebook states that the Croton River is almost 100 miles long and begins in the Pawling Mountains of Dutchess and Putnam Counties as well as the lakes in Westchester County. The river's tributaries include the Cross and Mohansic Rivers. The Indian name for the river was Kitchawan. It is on this river that the Croton Dam was built in 1837.
