William Wade refers to the home of James Alexander Hamilton, the third son of Alexander Hamilton. The ancestral home was called Nevis, after the island where Alexander Hamilton was born. The estate which is still known as Nevis was donated to Columbia University in 1934 to be used as a research facility for horticultural studies.
