Norman's Kill

Text from William Wade

Around it (Castleton) is a pleasant agricultural country, and between it and Albany, on the western shore, flows in the romantic Norman's Kill ( the Indian Tawasentha, or Place of many Dead), that comes down from the region of the lofty Helderbergs."

Edgar Mayhew Bacon in The Hudson From Ocean to Source says, " The sober page of history relates that the Dutch built their first fort on the Hudson in 1614 upon an island at the mouth of Norman's Kill and named the island Kasteel, or Castle, from which Castleton derives its name."
