Poughkeepsie Ferry

The Hudson  by Daylight Map of 1878 shows the ferry between New Paltz landing and Poughkeepsie but it also shows the outline of a bridge. The cantilever bridge was started in 1873 but abandoned and then resumed in 1886 and finished in 1889. It was built according to Edgar Bacon in The Hudson River from Ocean to Source to carry coal over the river by rail from Pennsylvania to New England.
