Saint Paul's Chapel was built between 1764 and 1766 on the corner of Broadway and Fulton Streets. It was an affiliate church to Trinity Church and was built by Thomas McBean who had studied under James Gibbs. After the inauguration of George Washington on April 30, 1789 in Federal Hall (formerly City Hall) , he and members of Congress attended a service at St. Paul's.
